Individual assignments can be bought.

Less cheating if properly supervised as compared to project works and group assignments where 2 students actually work and rest just put their names in.

Negative Aspects

Formal written exams are more inclined towards testing the student’s memory.

Time also plays a major role during formal examinations.

It’s not always true that different persons can perform equally when they are under pressure.

Sample Essay

Examination refers to a method of evaluation to judge the student’s skills and knowledge mainly via written exams. It usually reflects student’s learning capability on paper, but some people think otherwise. Whether or not formal written examinations is an appropriate way to gauge student’s knowledge will be discussed.

First of all, written exams are more inclined towards testing the student’s ability to memorize and cramp learning materials the day before exams. Student’s with better
photographic memory skills will be able to memorize the sample answers without having to understand how the question even works. Moreover, due to time constraint, students are often nervous while attempting the questions, hence are not in their optimal condition to think.

However, written examination is the only way to stop student’s from cheating via other forms of examination. For instance, student’s take home assignment could be easily completed by others, hence will not reflects their actual knowledge.

On the surface, it seems that examination has asserted unnecessary pressure onto students. However upon further inspection, formal written examination allows the students to demonstrate their individual knowledge and prevents cheating from any other forms of non-written examination. Had examination not been imposed in school, students would not have been motivated to pay attention in class. Hence, it is strongly believed that written examination should be the appropriate formal assessment for children.
